Pro-tip for college: Don’t use Pages files. I know all the cool kids have Macs but most institutions don’t and most professors will expect you to submit Word docs or PDFs because they’re a thousand times easier to read and comment on. Before you get worked up about “Well what if I can’t afford to buy Office??” here’s another thing to know: most universities will have a way for you to download Office for free with your student ID and it will make your college life (not to mention your professors’ lives) a lot easier. If you’re not sure how to get that software, talk to IT. Even if they don’t have Office, you can export a Pages file to PDF for free or download Word/PDF files from Google docs and your teachers will thank you.

Pages sucks, that’s all, don’t @ me

OpenOffice.org has free software that is completely compatible with Office (you can even save as a .doc, for example).

Seconded. Don’t know who would use Pages in the first place, that is a terrible program. Best to just use Google Docs. And then you don’t even have to worry about losing it when your computer crashes! 😀
