Pit Orchestra Moods:
– falling asleep in the pit while waiting for your cues and waking up to the person behind you smacking you repeatedly with their bow, then thanking them for it
– n o . r o o m.
– “surprise! here’s a new person in your section the rehearsal before opening night!”
– can we 🅱lease have another stand
– “the pit is my home now”
– making ominious jokes because “the pit” is perfect for cryptic humor
– just cutting out entire pages of the pieces Right Before an actual performance
– sitting right in front of the percussion and getting spooked by the loud noises
– unexpected repeats followed by instant Disaster™
– getting distracted by the actors and missing your cues
– talking over the “thank you quiet” because there’s none of that nonsense where you’re from, orchestra and band don’t follow rules
– everyone in the pit mouthing the lines as the actors say them, including dramatic hand motions and expressions (honestly, nominate the pit for an oscar, it gets pretty intense)
– standing up on your chair to look out at the audience and hearing small children gasp as though you’ve just risen from the grave
– group power naps between shows
– trying to make plans to all hang out or get breakfast/lunch/dinner together but they always fall through
– the one person in every section that is just BOPPIN along to the music
– no sleep for the 5 weeks of rehearsals + shows we die like men
this are all entirely correct
