I’m just super fucking bitter that once the flint water crisis got it’s 15 minutes of fame people stopped giving a shit. The water is still poisoned, people! Donations have plummeted and people have been forced back into drinking and bathing with the water! The medical effects of this are astounding, cases of legionnaires disease have skyrocketed, people are having seizures, people are having weird rashes break out over their body, people (including me!) are having their blood poisoned, and it’s not just lead! it’s coliform bacteria! it’s THMs! it’s all in the water and it gets into the bloodstream and breaks down blood vessels, causing bruising and petechiae and internal bleeding and no one gives a shit anymore and it’s only gotten worse like how many people are going to have to die until people realize this is still a problem

I would like to add that the people of Flint cannot sell their houses, because selling a house with leaded water is illegal. Additionally, households with children can’t stop paying for the water because living in a house without running water is cause for CPS to take their kids. Flint has been living this way for over two years. 

The people of Flint are trapped by the legal system. And it is only the most high profile case out many cities with a similar problem.

Firstly, yes they do still need donations. But don’t lie about the situation.

Yes, the water is still contaminated. Yes, the water is still harming the residents.

But no, it’s not illegal to sell their homes because of the water problem. That is a claim by one single person perpetuated repeatedly that has been confirmed by both the actual laws of Michigan as well as realtors that handle that area AS FALSE.

The main problem with selling homes in the area likely stems from the fact no one wants to buy the homes because of the problem, because the problem must be legally disclosed in the sale process by the seller or the realtor.

Furthermore, UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES lack of running water is listed as a factor for neglect in the CPS list of stuff to check for and lead to a child’s removal, HOWEVER THESE ARE NOT NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES and even the CPS has DENIED CLAIMS OF CHILDREN BEING REMOVED IN REGARDS TO THE WATER CRISIS.

So no, they are not taking children and charging parents with neglect for not having running water in Flint because the water is poisoned and it is a special circumstance. Instead, they are ensuring that residents with children have access somehow to clean water be it through relatives or through programs providing clean and safe water.

ALL OF THAT SAID, the problem is ongoing and still needs attention. But please, don’t rely on false information to get the point across.
