I’m feminist since I believe women deserve equal treatment to men.
I’m a feminist since I believe women should make the same salary as a man does and not 25% less for every dollar that same man makes.
I’m a feminist since I believe no one should be discriminated against for what they have no control over.
I’m a feminist since I believe that women are fucking human.
And on that note – I don’t even like blowjobs.
Women ARE paid less than men, and yes I saw your other reply to this post saying “BUT THE EQUAL PAY ACT!!” with a whole bunch of links about it.
Hate to burst your bubble, but although it’s law, its not followed, and because you mentioned it – I know you’re American – so here you go with some facts pertaining to America.
On average, full-time working women earn just 77 cents for every dollar a man earns. (Source: The White House)
And in some states it’s actually worse. Louisiana, the worst state in the country for pay equity, women are paid just 66 percent of what men were paid. (x)
Within some minority groups, the wage gap is even worse:
African-American women earn 69 cents for every dollar paid to
African-American men, and Latinas earn just 58 cents on the dollar
compared to Latino men. The disparity grows wider when these women are
compared to non-Hispanic white men. (x)
“But its because they need more education!“ you say.
At every level of academic achievement, women’s median earnings are less than men’s earnings, and in some cases, the gender pay gap is larger at higher levels of education. While education helps everyone, black and Hispanic women earn less than their white and Asian peers do, even when they have the same educational credentials as their fellow man. (x)
The gender wage gap can be attributed to several factors: Women make up a majority of workers in the 10 most common jobs that pay less than $10.10 an hour, and they tend to be under-represented in high-earning fields. Bloomberg Businessweek reported in 2012 that the only occupation in which women out-earn men is personal care and service work, including butlers, valets, shoe shiners and house sitters.
But studies show women are paid less even when they are in the same job and have the same experience as their male counterparts. They found that after controlling for occupation, college major, hours worked, employment sector and other factors related to a person’s pay, the gender wage gap shrunk but did not entirely disappear. (x)
“About one-third of the gap cannot be explained by any of the factors commonly understood to affect earnings, indicating that other factors that are more difficult to identify – and likely more difficult to measure – contribute to the pay gap,” that report said.
Want me to go a step farther? Like worldwide farther?
The U.N. (y’know the United Nations) released an official report explaining and showing that women earn 24% less than men on average.
So not only do they earn considerably less over their life time, they also receive no pension at the end of their working career.
So you really want to tell me that women don’t make less? Really? This all took one google search to find – all 3 seconds to write it out, and to make it easier on you here’s the direct link to that Google search. Even Google spells it out for you at the very top.
And since you didn’t take the time to type all that into Google originally, I doubt you’ll click on that link so I’ve gone ahead and attached a screenshot for you – enjoy.
It’s so crazy to me when men use the argument that we only watch football b/c the players are hot as a way to undermine our love of the game as if you can’t do both or something. Until you realize it’s a reflection of their views on women. It seems like men literally cannot respect a woman (as an athlete or in any profession really) and find her attractive at the same time. One always has to overtake the other and it’s almost always sexual attraction prevailing. Not only is it disrepectful, it’s a one dimensional way of thinking. And they so blindly project their one dimensionality onto us when it, in fact, doesn’t apply at all.
bravery is not an option for us. girls HAVE to be brave in order to work the night shift, to take the last bus home, to walk to a friend’s house alone. we do not have the luxury of choosing.
Or you could learn to defend yourself. don’t tell me that “girl’s are smaller than men” because Ronda Rousey is smaller than I am and she could beat my ass. And don’t say “not every girl is Ronda Rousey” because she worked her ass off to get that way, so it is possible for you too as well.
Right indeed yes—instead of being granted (what should be) the uncontested right to walk home safely, all girls should become professional mixed martial artists in order to ensure their possible well being. What a logical and reasonable solution.
Why don’t you tell the parents of girls lost, and injured and attacked that the onus of their daughters’ assault lies not with their attackers but with their daughters’ inability to roundhouse kick their way out of a situation they didn’t even ask for? You think you’d have the guts and humanity to do that? You think you’d have the guts to tell the parents of a girl who’d been hurt that their daughter was attacked because she wasn’t UFC-qualified?
every woman on tumblr should have this on their dash
And every man
Look how nobody’s yelling or arguing or making things into a competition. Look how this is to straight up educate people through a different perspective. Look how effective that makes the message.
The last one really hit me. I never really thought about something like that could actually impact a woman’s life. Damn…
