writer: this is one of my male characters! he cares about his guy friends and loves them deeply.

tumblr: oh! so he’s gay!

writer: uh…no, he’s attracted to women.

tumblr: ….so he’s bi!

writer: uhh…no…….he loves his guy friends but he’s not romantically/sexually attracted to them.

tumblr: ….so you’re homophobic.

writer:

Healthy male friendships are almost as rare in mainstream fiction as gay male relationships, and maybe more rare in fanfiction. Let men be wonderful friends without pushing a romantic relationship, just like men and women should be able to be wonderful friends without the pressure of a romantic relationship.

*AGGRESSIVELY SLAMS REBLOG UNTIL I DIE*

This is literally the reason men are so terrified of being open about loving each other platonically, because they don’t want people to assume they’re gay just because they can be supportive of their fucking friends

I literally got anon hate about my response to this post, and I just want to say that I’m sorry…

for not reblogging it sooner.

Psyche bitch, this is a good post.

The reason most millennials don’t make a scene when an establishment doesn’t treat them right is because we function more on positive reinforcement than negative reinforcement. For Boomers, they can make a scene because they know negative reinforcement gets them what they want; they want to PUNISH these establishments or workers, but Millennial purchasing patterns are very different.

Growing up in the computer age, we’ve become masterful at filtering junk information, and that includes advertising. It doesn’t matter how much a politician or restaurant or whatever memes, we’ll find them funny, but we’re still not going to shop there or give them our money of we dislike them. The way brands become successful with Millennials is actually just word of mouth.

So when an establishment treats us poorly, we don’t make a scene. We simply never go back and don’t tell our friends about it. Conversely, places that treat us well we immediately go tell others about.

The simplest ways to get Millennials to support your business is to give them good economic value for what you sell (Boomers can think we’re irresponsible, but we’re actually quite thrifty), you have to treat us with dignity, but ALSO, you have to treat your WORKERS with dignity. Unlike Boomers who get off on laughing at someone working at McDonald’s, we’ve all had to work shitty, underpaying jobs and we don’t like when we go to an establishment and see workers mistreated and poorly paid, because WE’VE BEEN THERE, and we don’t want to contribute to that gross abuse of the working class.

These rich CEOs can complain that Millennials have “no brand loyalty” or that we’re “killing XYZ industry,” but the truth is that selling to us consistently requires ethical business practices that most of these companies are unwilling to partake in.

this tweet is everything

I used to work at the National Gallery in London. Old men came up to me fairly regularly to complain about the young girls (and sometimes the tourists of a particular ethnicity or nationality) taking selfies with the art. I’d smile and say, it’s an interesting diptych because so many of the most celebrated works in the Gallery are portraits– the ‘selfies’ of yesteryear– and indeed, Van Eyck’s /Portrait of a Man/ (1433) may be the earliest known panel self portrait, ant the very least in western art history, so framing oneself in that context, comparing the methods of portraiture over a span of a little under 600 years, is at its heart a commentary on the human desire to remember and be remembered, to catalog one’s existence and give it authenticity.

They did not like that let me tell you.

Thank you for fighting the good fight, unicornsandbutane.

The two most culturally important things from the past few years are Friday by Rebecca Black because we learned we like hating things more than we like liking them and Cookie Clicker cause we figured out the only reason people play video games is to watch the numbers go up and since then we’ve just been applying those lessons to new and better incarnations of those two things.

Uhm I literally can’t believe I have to say this but uhhhh pedophilia is not a sexual orientation lmaooo

First of all, sexual orientation is on the basis of sex or gender and children are not a class of gender or sex lmaooo.

I’m bringing this up especially because the right wing has long been trying to couple and group non-heterosexuality with pedophilia, saying that the normalization of non-heterosexuality, is a slippery slope that leads to pedophilia.

Also recently, I have noticed that the language describing pedophilia has been changing to the point that some people are calling it a sexual orientation, which quite frankly is not only offensive but also extremely extremely dangerous.

Pedophilia is not, nor should it ever be considered a sexual orientation. It is a paraphilia. A paraphilia is an abnormal sexual desire that typically involves extreme and or dangerous activities. All of which define pedophilia.

(side note: I hate how otherwise harmless and consensual acts are considered paraphilia just because it’s uncommon. I think it should be reserved for the most extreme of things such as pedophilia or necrophilia)

I strongly believe that anyone who has pedophilic desires should be able to ask for and receive help before they consume or commit anything that is harmful to a child, past or present.

However ever, it is extremely harmful and not helpful to anyone, to call it a sexual orientation especially given the history of lgbt people, especially gay men, in relation to being accused as sexual predators.

Anyway, here’s a collection of images to further illustrate why it’s important to not call pedophilia a sexual orientation because it’s exactly what the right wants. They’ve been on a long campaign trying to spread that the lgbt community condones pedophilia:

Obviously to anyone familiar with internet trolls these images are right winged sock puppet propaganda but to a person who isn’t that informed on internet trolling or to someone with deepseated homophobia, these are all the support they need to suddenly call for the revoking of lgbt rights or the furthering of lgbt rights their country.

So again, pedophilia is not a sexual orientation. It’s a paraphilia, it’s abnormal, it’s not okay, it’s harmful, and absolutely needs intervention.

PEDOPHILIA IS NOT A SEXUAL ORIENTATION!!! I REPEAT PEDOPHILIA IS NOT A SEXUAL ORIENTATION!

Pedophilia is rape. It’s non-consensual as children can’t give consent, it’s abuse of your power over children as a adult. That’s WHY it’s bad.

I see a lot of ‘it’s bad!’ with no explanation why or a explanation that without further reasoning could draw too many parallels. So here is a brief reason why it’s bad in a way with no parallels that don’t need to be drawn.

It’s rape.
