Hillary Clinton keeps trying so hard to appeal to college-aged voters by getting on “our level,” but her idea of that is just using social media and trying to get in on inside jokes and trends.
Bernie Sanders is appealing to us by actually giving us the things that we want and that he knows we need: healthcare, reduced college prices, increased minimum wage, etc.
Bernie is treating us like the political adults we are, and Hillary is treating us like little kids who just so happen to be able to vote.
if your idea of “the things…we need” are healthcare, reduced college costs, and higher minimum wage, i can’t imagine how privileged you must be. how about institutionalized racism, homophobia, sexism? how about racist police and racist soldiers? how about the fact sanders clearly only “cares” about american citizens, proven by his track record of voting for war in afghanistan and kosovo, and voting to fund basically every armed conflict he’s been in office during? not to mention the fact that his backing of US imperialism is contradictory to his support of workers (like that time he supported housing f35 bombers at the burlington airport, despite the fact the noise would make a lot of working-class housing unsafe to live in)
Holy fuck you have no clue what you’re talking about.
“i can’t imagine how privileged you must be” Do you know how idiotic you sound saying that? Especially when its in response to free healthcare? You know the thing that most Americans need the most? The thing that can help keep them out of tens of thousands of dollars of debt? That healthcare? Because we fucking need it.
Want to know what else we need? Reduced college costs. Why? Because to make it in this world in most careers you need a college degree, you know what a lot of people can’t afford? the current monopoly that the college industry has and how they are raising the price of college and causing the people that want to get out of poverty, to stay in poverty. College costs are higher than they ever have been and outpacing the inflation rates for the cost of living.
With that same chart in mind we need higher minimum wage – minimum currently is at one of its lowest points and its on track to keep going lower with inflation. If we had stayed with inflation at the highest point (in 1967) the minimum wage would be over $11. Which was supposed to be a living wage. Now someone can barely pay for themselves and make ends meet every month if they are trying to live off of the current minimum wage.
And what is some people only method to get out of our current fucked up system for minimum wage? A college education.
Which news flash: they can’t get due to the amount of debt created and how much they can put away for college – which is nothing.
The poverty cycle exists and its shitty to be in.
Now for Bernie Sanders:
“sanders clearly only “cares” about american citizens, proven by his track record of voting for war in afghanistan and kosovo, and voting to fund basically every armed conflict he’s been in office during?”
You know what this says to me? That you know nothing about his voting record in military spending.
Let me break it down to you about his voting to fund (with both the good and bad).
Gulf War and Desert Storm: Bernie voted against the joint resolution to authorize the use of force against Iraq in 1991, calling for economic sanctions and other diplomatic means to address the conflict instead.
Iraq War and Operation Iraqi Freedom: Bernie voted against the joint resolution to authorize the use of force against Iraq in 2002, and voted against the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
And those four he voted for? Not even direct funding for war.
The first time Bernie voted for an Iraq war spending bill was in 2006, when the bill included funding for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
The second time, in 2007, he did so because he managed to insert an amendment into the bill giving a $1 million grant to the Vermont Department of Veterans Affairs (the VA) to help returning veterans cope with their health care and mental health needs upon returning home.
The third time was when the 2008 legislation incorporated a massive expansion of G.I. Bill benefits that Bernie co-sponsored — and which the Bush administration opposed — that guaranteed full scholarships to veterans, including activated National Guard troops and reservists, with three years of service attending any public, in-state university and expanded benefits for students at private colleges and for graduate schools.
Finally, in 2011, he voted for another spending bill, with the understanding that it would fund the conclusion to the war in Iraq as President Obama removed U.S. troops from the country.
“his backing of US imperialism is contradictory to his support of workers (like that time he supported housing f35 bombers at the burlington airport)”
Again you don’t understand the context.
Let me explain why they housed it at the Burlington Airport. The Vermont Air National Guard, is based out of the Burlington International Airport, not only is it a public airport – it is a national guard base. The have been housing fighter planes since 1986, before he was a senator, before he had anything to do with it considering he was only a mayor a in 1986 (he became a senator in 2007, and only after being a state representative starting in 1991). So the ‘noise’ it created? Had been there since before he could have any say, and all people who would be affected by it weren’t in the area since it’s an airport and base.
Bernie Sanders is the only current candidate with the most forward thinking views on racism. He has had his views unchanged since the 60′s where he was arranging sit-ins to fight against segregation (and for a comparison, Hillary Clinton was campaigning for segregation) on his campus. He marched with Martin Luther King Jr to show solidarity and has been fighting to end racism since before your parents were born.
Homophobia:
Bernie Sanders is also the most prominent ally for LGBT+ equality that we could have. He was fighting for same-sex marriage starting back to 1972 (and earlier) whereas the rest of the candidates have a history of being incredibly homophobic in the past (and again comparison: Hillary Clinton was against Same-sex marriage up until 2013 when she decided she needed the millennial vote).
Bernie Sanders also during his first term as Mayor of Burlington, in 1983, supported the city’s first ever Pride Parade. He later signed a city ordinance banning housing discrimination. One of the very first anti-discrimination laws for LGBTQ+ individuals in the entire country.
Sexism:
Sanders is truly pro-choice: He has voted against banning family planning funding in U.S. aid abroad and against funding health care providers that don’t offer simple information on abortions, Bustle recently reported.
Sanders voted to authorize The Violence Against Women act and then commended President Barack Obama for signing the bill that reauthorized the act.
“While the incidence of domestic violence has been reduced, too many women and girls are still suffering from domestic violence and sexual abuse,” he said, calling the Violence Against Women Act a “crucial law.”
So don’t try to tell me you know something about Bernie Sanders and make false claims without evidence, because obviously – you don’t.
So you know what? We need those things, we need someone who can actually make a change and has worked their entire life to do it no matter what society told them.
You may be one of my best friends, but it sounds to me like you’re privileged and self-centered, and its kind of disgusting that you don’t think about others or even do your own research before you speak.
This is why I follow mxcleod. The kid knows his shit. #FeeltheBern
i usually dont post politics or anything because i like to keep my blog wank-free and focus on fandoms, but
trump wants to deport immigrants and revoke the citizenship of birthright citizens whose parents were immigrants… but okay donald your mother and grandparents were literally immigrants themselves wtf are you gonna do?? deport yourself??
and then you see here his wife too is an immigrant, whats he gonna do now?? deport his wife and his children??
literally his entire family – like many others in the US – are immigrants and he wants to deport them all? of course hes not going to deport the white families because this is all based on trump’s blatant racism to immigrant families who came from latino and other backgrounds
Billboard demonstrating gender stereotypes as most people automatically assume that Alex is the boy.
Actually, I’ve studied design and advertising, and I can tell you that the reason people would look at this and immediately assume Alex is the boy is because, quite simply, the boy is the focal point of the ad.
English-speaking readers’ line of sight goes from left to right and up to down. This ad leads the viewer from the words MEET ALEX etc straight to the boy and then over and down to the girl. I didn’t even notice there was a set of parenthesis with words in them in the ad until I looked the fourth time.
This is a fallacious confirmation bias, as anyone looking at it will assume Alex is the focal point (i.e. The Boy) and then if they’re perceptive they’ll notice the words at the bottom. Aha! Those damn gender stereotypes gotcha again! Except no, because the ad literally forces you to read it as “Alex is the boy” by the visual language and lines of sight.
A better ad would have been structured from top to bottom instead of left to right, and wouldn’t have pushed the girl, the real subject of the ad (who, by the way, has been VISUALLY PUSHED OUT OF HER RIGHTFUL SPACE ON THE AD BY HER BROTHER) off to the corner as far away from her identifiers as possible.
Here, I’ll make you a better ad.
Bam. Shitty stock photo but you get the point. If anyone sees this and assumes Alex is the boy, they don’t have the the ad layout to use as an excuse for their internalized gender shittery. Likewise, the ad isn’t actively trying to make you read it a certain way and THEN making you feel guilty for interpreting it the way they designed it to be.
bravery is not an option for us. girls HAVE to be brave in order to work the night shift, to take the last bus home, to walk to a friend’s house alone. we do not have the luxury of choosing.
Or you could learn to defend yourself. don’t tell me that “girl’s are smaller than men” because Ronda Rousey is smaller than I am and she could beat my ass. And don’t say “not every girl is Ronda Rousey” because she worked her ass off to get that way, so it is possible for you too as well.
Right indeed yes—instead of being granted (what should be) the uncontested right to walk home safely, all girls should become professional mixed martial artists in order to ensure their possible well being. What a logical and reasonable solution.
Why don’t you tell the parents of girls lost, and injured and attacked that the onus of their daughters’ assault lies not with their attackers but with their daughters’ inability to roundhouse kick their way out of a situation they didn’t even ask for? You think you’d have the guts and humanity to do that? You think you’d have the guts to tell the parents of a girl who’d been hurt that their daughter was attacked because she wasn’t UFC-qualified?
You know what makes me the saddest about Lilo and Stitch?
When she gets kicked out of the dance class, she’s the only person we know for sure is native Hawaiian in her age bracket in the class.
There’s Myrtle, who is white, Elena who is white (f she’s the blonde one), Theresa who’s background is unclear, and Yuki who is implied, based on the name and the large Japanese population in Hawaii, to be Japanese.
She is taking a dance class of a dance traditional to her people.
And she is kicked out primarily because a white girl, Myrtle, is bullying her.
How fucking sad is that?
Dude.
This always got me about the movie. I always
wanted
to punch

IN THE FACE AND EXISTENCE
Also, the hula dancing runs in the family, as we find out in the sequel that her mother was a dance champion. It’s clear in this scene that the deaths of her mother and father are still fresh in her mind and I think the dancing reminds her of her mother and happier times. Maybe they practiced together frequently? Idk, it’s just the vibe I get. That Lilo is there to do her mother proud, rather than to make friends and socialize like the others there.
Her face says it all. Look at how happy she is!
Everyone who liked this, everyone who validated this, you need to unlike it right NOW.
As a Native Hawai’ian, I have a problem with this post.
A fucking big problem.
First off, Hawai’i is massively diverse. Massively. Almost no one is pure Hawai’ian. The speculation that Lilo is at all pure or the only part Hawai’ian is laughable. There’s a very very slim margin that she would be at all. Secondly, just because it’s “not confirmed” doesn’t mean those girls aren’t. There are thousands of Japanese-Hawai’ian girls. Thousands, and thousands more of even more mixed races who are Hawai’ian. My sister is a shade away from blonde, and as pale as snow white, and she is just as half-Hawai’ian as I am – even though I look more “authentic”. I know many beautiful Hawai’ian girls with clouds of red hair and creamy complexions from mixed bloodlines. If you want to get “authentic” and go off of Lilo’s appearance, to us locals, she looks half-Asian. She looks definitely hapa at best.
It angers me beyond all reason that this has reposts, reposts from people who don’t understand the Native Hawai’ian culture, much less the culture that sprung from it which envelops our islands. You are reposting blind ignorance. Who are you to decide who looks more Hawai’ian? Who are you people to assume our culture and that this girl takes it more seriously than the others? Because she gets a backstory?
The amazing thing about my culture, MY culture, is that hula opens its arms to all. All children here are welcome to it. It is passed on to them and their blood does not dictate their passion nor their eligibility. “Lilo is there to make her mother proud, rather than to make friends and socialize”. Do you have any idea what a halau is? You don’t, no, none of you do. You have no idea what a halau is. A halau is your family, a halau are your friends, your only social circle when you are fully dedicated. My mother IS one of the queens of hula who trained under Maiki Aiu and she still talks to her hula sisters daily. They were part of her life. It isn’t enough to just hula, or learn it, and put blinders on the sides of your head. If you don’t live it with your hula sisters and brothers, then your story is nothing. You go through motions and you tell no stories.
Don’t try for one moment, to make that scene out like it was Lilo being bullied by a white girl. Yes, Hawai’i is still being raped by the ideologies of white appropriation, but do not for one moment think that these girls may not be Hawai’ian. Do not think for one moment that you have the right nor the knowledge to sweep onto the internet and start reposting like a fucking idiot about a culture and mixed bloodlines and races you don’t really understand aside from “the white man hurt them”. You damage people like my sister, like my cousins, all equally as proud and maka’a’inana as I, simply because they don’t look like me.
You have no right to use this scene as commentary, because you have not even a shade of an idea of the damage you do with it.
I find this commentary particularly relevant in light of the similar POC erasure that took place in Mad Max: Fury Road fandom.
The Telegraph calling Mario Balotelli the most overrated footballer of all time is literally outrageous. He’s one of the first black players to represent Italy National team in major tournaments and the abuse he had to endure for it was unbelievable. “Failed to completely fulfill his apparent potential,” why though? Was it because: In 2009 at Turin’s Stadio Olimpico, while playing for Inter Milan, he
was insulted throughout the whole match by the chorus, “A n**** cannot
be Italian!” After his transfer to AC Milan, Paolo Berlusconi, the team’s
vice-president and brother of the former prime minister, Silvio
Berlusconi, was filmed saying, “Okay, now we are all off [to the stadium] to see the family’s little n*****.” During Euro 2012, UEFA charged Croatia over racist chants against Balotelli, but it was the Italian supporters who called him
a “black piece of shit” during the training session at Coverciano,
right before the World Cup. And after Italy crashed out, someone posted a video on instagram saying, “Mario, you’re not really Italian. Go away.” In 2013, during the Milan derby, his former Inter supporters welcomed
him by waving plastic bananas. As Inter president Massimo Moratti
declared after the match, “My compliments go to the public, they really
behaved themselves. They avoided doing anything unpleasant.”
what she says: i’m fine
what she means: the u.s. women’s national soccer team is infinitely better than the u.s. men’s national soccer team, and yet the women’s team doesn’t nearly get as much acknowledgement for not only winning 3 world cups to the men’s 0, but winning 4 gold medals in the olympics to the men’s 0. they are the nation’s true champions and yet do not get the recognition they deserve for being the best soccer team
You say that you haven’t sold out our history. But you’ve sold you the greatest part of of Barça’s history. The shirt
