It’s so crazy to me when men use the argument that we only watch football b/c the players are hot as a way to undermine our love of the game as if you can’t do both or something. Until you realize it’s a reflection of their views on women. It seems like men literally cannot respect a woman (as an athlete or in any profession really) and find her attractive at the same time. One always has to overtake the other and it’s almost always sexual attraction prevailing. Not only is it disrepectful, it’s a one dimensional way of thinking. And they so blindly project their one dimensionality onto us when it, in fact, doesn’t apply at all.
Well, some of them anyway. But I’m still excited. Lots of these teams have WWC stars, not just from Team USA, but from around the world. Now that we’ve won the WWC, maybe this will be our year.
Maybe women’s soccer will finally be popular and respected, and not be talked about just once every 4 years.
“The final piece in a championship team is leadership… I want a driving force who won’t let standards slip. That’s how teams with ordinary talent can win championships. Without leadership, even a team with great talent will struggle to become a champion.“
