So in my college for success class today,my teacher told us that if you are a high school senior of a minority race (African-American,Hispanic,etc).with a 3.0 or higher gpa,you qualify to apply for the Gates Millinnium Scholarship. This scholarship pays for everything, including food and housing!! You can go from your undergraduate to your doctorate program and they will pay for everything!!! Please look into and apply if you’re a senior or work towards it if you’re a junior or under.

call your local senator and representatives! websites like 5calls tell you your national representatives based on your location and if you use their mobile site, you can call those representatives through their site. they don’t yet have hb2796 on their site, but you can use their system regardless!
here is an example of something you can say: “My name is (your name) and I am a constituent in (your town/city/district). I strongly oppose house bill 2796, which aims to remove gender identity protections from civil rights legislation by forcibly clarifying “gender” or “sex” to indicate only a person’s assigned gender at birth. Transgender people require civil rights protections as a vulnerable part of our population, and it is extremely important to me that they receive those protections. Thank you for your time and attention.”

i just got a super predatory debt collection letter. it was for a $113 debt from citizens bank, who i had an account with when i was 16 (20 years ago). the letter appeared to be an offer to cancel the debt if i paid them $22.75. HOWEVER, the actual wording is, “The amount of the debt is $113.77 and we will accept $22.75.” so, no MENTION of canceling the debt, but the implication is there because many collectors of current debt offer to settle for a percentage.
at the bottom of the letter, it says: “Because of the age of your debt, we cannot sue you for it and we cannot report to any credit reporting agency. In many circumstances, you can renew the debt and start the time period for the filing of a lawsuit against you if you take specific actions such as making payments on the debt or making a written promise to pay.”
basically… i don’t owe this money anymore, the debt is so old they can’t legally sue me for it OR put it on my credit report, BUT if i take their generous offer of paying them $22.75… they can sue me for the full amount because making a payment makes the debt current.

there is a good chance that they are police too. if anyone, especially a white dude, ever randomly gets your attention and conspiratorially tries to convince you to jump a police officer, then dude is a cop. They have been using this technique and script for at least 30 years.

Before same sex marriage was legalized nationwide, it was state votes giving queer people equal rights. You can see something similar, legally speaking, with marijuana laws right now, where it literally ranges all the way from legal and illegal, to decriminalized to medical use only, depending on what state your in.
Look into issues on the ballot, who is representing you in your state government, and who your governor is. Vote for your town mayor, and city council members, because what happens locally is important too.
