Wow.

Here’s the video of Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade defending Trump’s treatment of immigrant children because “these aren’t our kids…it’s not like he is doing this to the people of Idaho or Texas”

WOW

“Putting children in cages is only bad if they are AMERICAN children”

Chelsea Peretii (aka Gina Linetti on Brooklyn Nine-Nine) has officially snapped on Twitter RE: family separation and it’s honestly so refreshing to see someone treat this shit with the true horror and unmatched outrage it deserves

Most of us are trying to temper ourselves – keep our emotions and expectations in check. We’re trying to avoid the emotional burnout so common with this administration

Bless Peretii for going all in. Bless her for calling out bullshit. And bless her for keeping it on people’s feeds.

A stranger who doesn’t speak English (or more likely speaks some limited English) knocks on the door to the apartment complex you own and asks if they can stay there since dangerous people have taken over their building and you have plenty of space in yours.

They take low wages doing odd jobs around your house that you always hated doing anyway, but they have trouble doing things like visiting doctors, feeding and educating their children, and putting away any money for their future. They ask you, since you control the house and and have vast resources available to you, if you would be able to spare anything to help them survive while they look at their options and try to get their bearings.

You call the police to have them evicted because they’re inconveniencing you. The police come, rip their children from them, and incarcerate them separately. You turn on the TV and yell at black football players.

i didn’t know fox was really pushing the narrative of these concentration camps for kids being nice and fun as proof that they aren’t concentration camps

i hate to break this to you, fox. but the nazis definitely did try to sell the public on the idea that concentration camps were nice and fun

also like…. americanization of children stolen from families also resembles shit the nazis did???? there’s no way to avoid the comparison????

showing the concentration camps as better than they actually are was something the nazis did

the actual propaganda films are on youtube

Employee quits job at for-profit child prison camp after being told to order three siblings not to hug each other.

Colleagues at a government-contracted shelter in Arizona had a specific request for Antar Davidson when three Brazilian migrant children arrived: “Tell them they can’t hug.”

Davidson, 32, is of Brazilian descent and speaks Portuguese. He said the siblings — ages 16, 10 and 6 — were distraught after being separated from their parents at the border. The children were “huddled together, tears streaming down their faces,” he said.

Officials had told them their parents were “lost,” which they interpreted to mean dead. Davidson said he told the children he didn’t know where their parents were, but that they had to be strong.

“The 16-year-old, he looks at me and says, ‘How?’” Davidson said. As he watched the youth cry, he thought, “This is not healthy.”

Davidson quit this week after being a youth care worker at the Tucson shelter, Estrella del Norte, for just a few months. He decided to speak out about his experiences there in hopes of improving a system often shielded from public scrutiny. His comments in a telephone interview offer a rare look into the operation of a migrant shelter.

[…]

The caseload is straining a facility he described as understaffed and unequipped to deal with children experiencing trauma, such as the three Brazilians. During his time at the shelter, children were running away, screaming, throwing furniture and attempting suicide, Davidson said. Several were being monitored this week because they were at risk of running away, self-harm and suicide, records show.

[…]

Davidson saw more and more confused and upset children, most from Latin America. There also were more of what staff call “tender age” children, those under 13. Some were as young as 4, he said.

“What was once a transient facility with a staff that was strained and struggling is now becoming a more permanent facility,” and more “prison-like,” Davidson said.

[…]

“They had no idea where their parents were. The case managers said it’s going to be a week until we even find their parents and another week until we talk to them. I just saw how they were bungling these cases,” he said. “At that point zero tolerance was in full swing and you could see the desperation: kids running down the hall, screaming for their moms.”

These are internment camps. Plain and simple, that’s what they are. Re-education camps too, in come cases, but in every case, these are internment camps. That’s what “internment camp” means.

The second they hit forced labour or direct violence to these kids, they’re concentration camps. And if it hasn’t started already, it will soon.

This is the point at which shit begins to accelerate. This is the point at which we need to fight the fuck back if we want to stop it. I would say burn the fuckers down, but there are kids in there. Cut the fences, smash the locks, and smash the fucking state that allowed this to happen.

“What can do about it?”

That awful awful post that I reblogged recently that outlined the steps the government will take towards nazi germany part 2 said that at this point, what you can do is disrupt the camps. Block the transports taking people in. Protest at the camps. Cut the goddamned fences. There are already people doing this, people who set up a protest blockade, and the people there, without a shred of irony, complained that it was keeping them from their families at home.

These are BAD TIMES, guys. This is a heinous blot on history slowly happening right before your eyes.

I’m avoiding the thing about Trump’s family separation policy as much as possible because it literally makes me want to melt down in a rage the moment I think about it almost at all, and as a Canadian there’s an incredibly limited amount I can do when I have to keep my own precarious mental health functioning

but I just want you to know that a lot of the field of Attachment Theory in psychology began after WWII, when psychologists examined the physical and psychological health of children sent away from their parents for their own “safety”

and what we found about the psychological results of broken child-caregiver attachment has led us to conclude that it is literally MORE HUMANE to leave families intact in refugee camps in warzones, than to separate the children from their parents, even if those children are sent to the best of all possible environments.

Speaking as a fucking psychologist I just want you to know that if you want to fuck someone up FOR FUCKING LIFE, the BEST possible way to do it, is to abruptly separate them from the adults who love and care for them. For maximum fuckery do it before the age of 3, 5 is pretty damn good at fucking them up for life too, but honestly any time before adulthood is pretty effective. You will fuck them up in a way we just DON’T know how to heal yet. You don’t just leave them catastrophically more at risk for mental illness, learning disorders, addictions, abuse, and future trauma, you also put them at much higher risk of things like diabetes, heart attack, and suicide.

and then I thought about what kind of environments those kids ARE being sent into and I need to throw up now
