I think this Ballon d’Or belongs to Messi. Last season was one of his best. He won the Champions League, La Liga and La Copa del Rey. He broke scoring records, second most goals in La Liga. He came back this year from an injury and started scoring again. And not just scoring. The dribbling, the passes, the assists, the chances created, he did it all. He fully deserves it.

In my opinion Piqué is a true culé … from is heart. That is why he reacts the way he does: it is not to disrespect anyone … I am culé and I understand him completely … sometimes I make similar comments in home. (AND HE NAILED THE PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE WAY!)

Oh I completely agree with you and him. As a Culé, I understand the passion behind his every word. There is simply too much….sensitivity in football. Even if you do not agree with his words, don’t act like a dumbass. Don’t degrade him and cause more trouble because your little ego’s were hurt. His views and his opinions are his own, and he is allowed to express them HOWEVER the hell he wants. Madridistas obviously don’t like his words, how could they? But that doesn’t justify booing him and causing more tension in the NT, where some RM players and some Barça players come together to represent SPAIN. It is the stupidest shit I have ever witnessed, and I felt dumber just hearing those fans whistle at Geri. If you cheer on Spain, YOU CHEER ON SPAIN, NOT REAL MADRID. CLUB AND NT SHOULD BE SEPARATE, ALWAYS.

I get so annoyed when I observe willfully incompetent fathers. Last night my mom and I went to a restaurant that had a lot of families, and honestly, almost all of the dads I noticed were totally useless in their behavior. They mostly sat around and ate while the moms fed the kids, took the kids to the salad bar, refilled the kids’ drinks, cleaned the kids up, took the kids to the bathroom, entertained the kids, calmed the kids when they got fussy, etc. 

So then it bothers me when people act like it’s “cute” or worthy of a sitcom trope when dads are clueless…because the subsequent assumption is that it’s not a big deal because his wife or some other woman will let him off the hook and take over (as she “should” because women are made to be caregivers and assumed to be naturally nurturing)! There’s nothing amusing about a grown man refusing to do simple things for his own children and essentially forcing his wife (and/or other women in his life) to pick up his slack.

I just feel sorry for all of the women out there who do so much work that is not appreciated or valued. Women in general work so hard.

I just read a post about how Leo doesn’t deserve the UEFA Best Player in Europe award because he, I quote: 

  • “was helped by Neymar/Suarez”
  • “didn’t carry Barcelona alone”
  • “didn’t score in UCL final Neymar/Suarez saved his ass”
  • “Messi was good but he was helped by his team mates”

I won’t bring the other UEFA Nominees into this because that’s not my prerogative. I don’t put much value on this award, it’s just a pretty shiny thing that’s nice to have. However, these comments struck a cord with me and I have a few things to say: 

  • Football is a team sport. 
  • Neymar and Suarez are Messi’s teammates. Are you telling me Neymar and Suarez don’t reap the rewards of Messi’s contributions as well? Are you telling me Messi doesn’t help his team? 
  • This is not FC Messi. This is not FC Individual Glory. 
  • But oh, you want to talk about Messi’s individual glory? Well, let’s have at it. 
  • Look at real time: 
    • pre-season FCB = dying against easy teams
    • Messi plays = win the European Super Cup (2 amazing freekick goals and one indirect goal from Messi) against Sevilla, one of the toughest teams in Europe
  • Are you telling me that a penalty goal is more impressive that Leo’s fast, precise individual runs that lead to mind-boggling goals? goals that are dissected and analyzed scientifically e.g., x
  • Did you see Messi’s goals against Bayern that were essential to FCB winning the Champion’s League? 
  • Did you see Messi play against Manchester City? against Atletico Madrid? Valencia? Juventus? He may not have scored in the UCL final, but he could have easily won MOTM. 
  • Did you watch Messi at all this past season? He was intrinsic to our success with all trophies, and from where I stand, the most intrinsic.
